Van Alstyne, Texas -- or "VA" as we say it around here -- is a quaint community located just 10 minutes north of McKinney. It's a place that puts an emphasis on family, faith, and friends. VA has its own police, fire & EMS departments, local grocery, small shops and local restaurants. VA is a wonderful community to raise a family with excellent schools and state-of-the-art facilities. In addition to being ranked at the top of the state academically, our students routinely compete at the region and state level in sports and the arts.

Location

Van Alstyne is located 45 miles North of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex on the fast-growing Highways 75 & 5 corridor — just 15 miles from both McKinney and Sherman. It’s convenient proximity to the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex and a central U.S. location lend to a favorable prospect for future economic development. Sitting at the north end of the so-called North Texas Technology Corridor, the area includes plants for Procter & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson Medical, Kaiser Aluminum, Consolidated Container, Texas Instruments, and Raytheon.

In addition to excellent recreational amenities on the Red River and Lake Texoma to the north, and the revitalized Denison downtown, Van Alstyne is a quiet place that allows for calm country living. When desired, shopping and many other amenities are just 10-15 minutes away in McKinney, Frisco and Allen.

Schools

The Van Alstyne Independent School District is ranked in the top 5% of high schools in the state and is also rated an "A" district by the Texas Education Agency. Students in Van Alstyne score significantly higher than the state average on most STAAR exams as well as scoring higher than the state average on SAT and ACT exams.

The Van Alstyne Independent School District serves over 1700 students in K-12 in the growing suburban community located between McKinney and Sherman on the I-75 corridor. Currently, students attend Partin or Sanford elementary (K-4), Middle School (5-8), and High School (9-12).

Van Alstyne students have their choice of Advanced Placement classes or dual credit courses. Students may currently aquire 32 college credits from offered courses. A partnership with Grayson College allows students to attain career cirtification in welding, cosmetology, HVAC, and OSHA. Van Alstyne students excel in band, athletics, choir, theater, AG, UIL, Culinary and robotics. Students are also able to become active in leadership or service organizations such as Rachel’s Challenge, PALS, and Ready Set Teach.
